Icahn ‘pleased’ that Motorola is considering handset spinoff
SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) — Carl Icahn says he is “pleased” that Motorola Inc. is considering spinning off its trouled mobile device business but added that the company “still has a long way to go” in reviving its business. The billionaire activist investor issued a statement late Thursday after Motorola announced that its board of directors is considering options for the business, including the spinoff of its handset unit. Icahn said he still plans to submit an alternative slate of directors at the company’s next annual meeting. “We believe Motorola is finally moving in the right direction but certainly still has a long way to go,” he said in the statement.
