Motorola considering spin off of mobile device business

SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) - Motorola Inc. said late Thursday that it is considering spinning off its struggling mobile device business. In a statement, the wireless equipment maker said it is “exploring the structural and strategic realignment of its businesses” as part of an effort to revive its handset business and improve shareholder value. “We are exploring ways in which our Mobile Devices Business can accelerate its recovery and retain and attract talent while enabling our shareholders to realize the value of this great franchise,” CEO Greg Brown said in the statement.
