Citigroup to merge Japanese brokers into single unit: Nikkei
HONG KONG (MarketWatch) — Citigroup Inc will merge its Japanese brokerage units into a single entity within two years, as the New York-headquartered financial group seeks to reorganize overlapping businesses, according to a Japanese media report Thursday. The merger will affect the retail-focused Nikko Cordial Securities Inc. and the wholesale-focused Nikko Citigroup Ltd, the Nikkei business daily reported Thursday. Citigroup will announce a detailed merger plan for its Japanese operations by the end of February.
