Euro pares gains after setting record high vs. dollar
SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) — The euro pared its gains after rising to a new record high against the dollar Tuesday, as downbeat U.S. data raised fears about the U.S. economy. The euro rose as high as $1.4985 according to a trader using the EBS electronic trading platform, $1.4982 according to Reuters data, and $1.4981 according to FactSet. The spike topped the previous high of $1.4966 touched on Nov. 23. The single European currency began trading in January 1999. The dollar index, which tracks the greenback’s performance against a basket of six major currencies, also touched an all-time low of 74.706. The euro last traded at $1.4968 and the dollar index rebounded to 74.757.
