High court rejects added tobacco advertising suit: reports

SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) — The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday declined to hear a lawsuit that accused tobacco companies of targeting minors in advertising, according to media reports. The class action suit against Altria Group Inc. unit Philip Morris USA and other tobacco companies was rejected by the California Supreme Court. The U.S. Supreme Court is already hearing a case on whether federal advertising law pre-empts various state laws over the marketing of “light” cigarettes.
