Japan hedge funds post average loss of 8.7% in fiscal 2007

HONG KONG (MarketWatch) — Japanese-focused hedge funds posted an average loss of 8.6% in the fiscal year ending March 31, the worst performance in the seven years since data-tracker Eurekahedge has surveyed the market, according to a report by the Nikkei newspaper Thursday. Assets under management fell to $22.65 billion as of the end of March, declining $10.76 billion from a year earlier, according to the Eurekahedge survey of 260 hedge funds which invest exclusively in Japanese assets.
