U.S. dollar adds to gains after jobs data

NEW YORK (MarketWatch) — The U.S. dollar added to its gains Thursday after the Labor Department reported that the number of people filing for the first time for unemployment benefits fell by 18,000 to 365,000 on a seasonally adjusted basis in the week ending May 3. The dollar index, which tracks the performance of the greenback against a basket of other major currencies, rose 0.3% to 73.71.
