U.S. stocks rise at the open after Wednesday sell-off
NEW YORK (MarketWatch) — U.S. stocks rose at the open Thursday, after the last session’s big pullback, with oil futures trading above $123 a barrel but with investors finding relief in decent retail sales from the likes of Wal-Mart Stores. The Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 23 points, or 0.2%, at 12,837. The S&P 500 index gained 0.2% to 1,395, while the Nasdaq Composite rose 8.8 points, to 0.3%, to 2,446.
