Despite improvement, markets still not normal: Bernanke
WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) — Despite some improvements, financial markets remain severely stressed, Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke said Tuesday. The Fed’s innovative efforts to provide cash to financial markets have helped, Bernanke said. Pressures have lessened for brokerage firms, conditions in the Treasury repo market have improved and liquidity is better is several other markets, he said. “”These are welcome signs, or course, but at this stage conditions in financial markets are still far from normal,” Bernanke said in a speech prepared for a conference on financial markets sponsored by the Atlanta Fed bank.
