Favrille pulls plug on lead drug candidate Specifid
BOSTON (MarketWatch) — Biotech group Favrille Inc. said early Tuesday that it was discontinuing development of its lead drug candidate Specifid due to disappointing Phase III clinical results. Favrille had been testing Specifid for the treatment of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma in conjunction with the therapies Leukine and Rituxan. “We are clearly very disappointed with the data from this trial, particularly on behalf of the patients and their families,” said John Longenecker, Favrille’s chief executive officer, in a statement. “Based on these results, we are discontinuing development of Specifid and are currently evaluating steps to conserve cash and recognize value on our assets,” he added.
