Acorda Therapeutics’ MS drug trial shows ‘positive’ results
WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) — Acorda Therapeutics Inc. said a second Phase III clinical trial of Fampridine-SR on the walking ability of people who suffer from multiple sclerosis has yielded “positive” results. Consistent improvement in walking speed was the primary endpoint of the study. A “significantly greater proportion” of trial participants taking Fampridine-SR showed such improvement compared to people taking a placebo, reflecting better leg strength, according to Hawthorne, N.Y.-based Acorda. Dr. Ron Cohen, president and CEO, said Acorda expects to submit a new drug application in the first quarter of 2009 and plans to request priority review by the Food and Drug Administration.
