Energy stocks dip with crude’s string of gains in jeopardy
SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) — Energy stocks retreated in early trades Friday as the price of oil gave back some of its 5% gains from the prior session. Crude for October delivery lost $1.74, or 1.4%, to $119.44 a barrel in early electronic trading with the stronger U.S. dollar weighing on dollar-denominated commodities prices. The Amex Oil Index shed 1.2% to 1,328 points while the Amex Natural Gas Index gave up 1.7% to 595 points.
