Gold futures close lower for the day, higher for the week

SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) — December gold closed at $833.50 an ounce on the New York Mercantile Exchange Friday, down $5.50 for the session. But the contract gained 5.2% for the week with traders concerned about the state of the economy and eying movements in the U.S. dollar and oil.
